West Nile Virus
West Nile Virus is a late summer and early fall neurological disease affecting mainly horses and humans. There have been more than 10 human cases and a 100 isolates reported in Arizona this year alone.
We urge you to vaccinate your horse(s) if they have not be vaccinated yet this year. Also since the Monsoon rains there are more breeding places for mosquitoes which transmit the disease. Please take the following steps for prevention:
Eliminate standing water, which allows mosquitoes to breed. Check for conditions outside the home that may provide potential for mosquito breeding, such as poorly maintained swimming pools, cans, bottles, jars, buckets, old tires, drums and other containers with water.
Change water in flower vases, birdbaths, planters and animal watering pans at least twice a week.
Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets, and move air conditioner drain hoses
Report mosquito breeding problems (e.g. green pools) to your
Lastly VACCINATE ALL HORSES.
